ABSTRACT:
This is a first hand analysis of the history of Marxism, in all its variations in the national liberation movements in Southern Africa, from 1900 till 1970. This doctoral dissertation of the author, Franz J T Lee, was later published as "Suedafrika vor der Revolution?", and in a second edition as "Suedafrika am Vorabend der Revolution". It was placed on the index in Apartheid South Africa, that was forbiding its possession, reading and quoting.

Today still its suggestions to create a grass roots vanguard emancipatory party, socialism from below, are more valid than ever. Neoliberalism is playing havoc in contemporary South Africa.
